⭐ My Personal Antarctica Experience

Antarctica expedition cruise expert Sheila Gallant-Halloran in Antarctica on a landing off the Lindblad Endurance

In November 2024, I travelled to Antarctica on an expedition voyage with Lindblad Expeditions aboard the National Geographic Endurance. Experiencing Antarctica firsthand completely reshaped how I advise clients.

What stood out most:

  • The stillness and scale of the landscape

  • The expertise of expedition leaders and naturalists

  • The difference a true expedition ship makes

  • The emotional impact — it’s not just sightseeing, it’s perspective

Because I’ve been there, I can guide you beyond brochures:

  • Choosing the right expedition operator

  • Understanding ship differences

  • Preparing for the Drake Passage

  • Maximizing wildlife encounters

  • Planning pre/post logistics in South America

That insider experience makes all the difference.

Antarctica surprised me. Not because of the penguins (though they absolutely stole my heart 🐧)… but because of how it made me feel.

In November 2024, I travelled to the White Continent on a luxury expedition with Lindblad Expeditions.

Yes, we had Wi-Fi.

Yes, I FaceTimed home.

But something unexpected happened out there.

I stopped thinking about my inbox. My to-do list. Even my next trip.

Standing on deck in the soft Antarctic light, there was just stillness. That’s what Antarctica gives you — not just epic scenery, but space. Space to breathe. Space to reset. Space to reconnect with yourself.

In this video, I share what changed for me — and why this kind of journey might be the reset you didn’t know you needed. If Antarctica is quietly calling, let’s talk ❤️

📅 When To Go To Antarctica

When is the best time to go to Antarctica?

It’s the question I’m asked more than any other — and the answer depends on what you want to experience.

Antarctica is only accessible during Austral summer, from late October to March.

Each part of the season offers something different, from dramatic ice and fresh snow to penguin courtship, hatching chicks, and peak whale watching.

This footage was taken in late October / November, when Antarctica feels especially pristine — sculpted ice, quiet landscapes, and early-season wildlife activity.

There’s no single “best” time to go. There’s only the time that’s right for you. If Antarctica is on your someday list, let’s plan it intentionally. 📩 Contact: sheila@lushlife.ca 🌍 www.lushlife.ca #Antarctica#ExpeditionCruising#LindbladExpeditions#AntarcticTravel#AskSheila#ReturnOnLife#LiveYourLushLife

November – Early Season

  • Dramatic ice scenery

  • Penguin courtship

  • Fresh snow landscapes

December–January – Peak Season

  • Warmer temperatures

  • Penguin chicks hatching

  • Long daylight hours

February–March – Whale Season

  • Peak whale activity

  • Active wildlife

  • Stunning late-season light

There isn’t a single “best” time — it depends on what you want most.

🎒 Antarctica Packing Advice

Key essentials include:

  • Waterproof outer layers

  • Proper base layers

  • Gloves, hats, neck protection

  • Sunglasses and sunscreen (yes — even there)

  • Camera gear for wildlife and landscapes

Most expedition cruise lines provide parkas and boots, but preparation still matters.

I provide clients with a detailed packing checklist tailored to their voyage.

When your ship gets stuck in Antarctic ice… 🇨🇦❄️ Apparently the Canadian instinct kicks in — just start “pulling” one iceberg at a time. 😄

In reality, this is expedition cruising at its finest: powerful, purpose-built ships, expert crews, and those awe-filled moments that remind you how incredible this planet really is.

This was onboard Lindblad Expeditions’ National Geographic Endurance — built for polar exploration. Antarctica doesn’t need to be extreme… just done right. And yes — absolutely worth every frozen breath.
