Canada Day in Ottawa – a Royal Good Time

Did you have a lovely Canada Day weekend?  I certainly hope so!  We had some visitors in Ottawa this weekend… perhaps you’d heard?  They gathered a wee bit of a crowd in Canada’s National Capital region!  http://nationalpostnews.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/jeffisgr8t-2133209.jpg?w=940&h=592

Some of us braved the heat, crowds, closed roads, and traffic, and went to Parliament Hill for the ceremonies and activities during the day (over 300,000 cramped on Parliament Hill grass to watch the noon day show) – but some of us watched the festivities from the security of our tv sets (including me! – which I was quite happy about when I watched  some waiting fans pass out from the heat), and heard the snowbirds fly above our houses as the jets turned around to continue their fly over the royal couple.  Much more civilized to raise a glass to them, and munch on some Canada Day barbecue at home – think we got some better seats for sure!
We headed downtown for the fireworks, and managed to camp out on a patch of grass not too far from the Hill with a couple of thousand of our closest and dearest. Managed to get a couple of decent snaps off.

Seems Wills and Kate also took in the fireworks’ show… but this was the closest I got to them (a drive by…). Glad to hear that they had fun…  I know we did!  Hope you did too! (And happy July 4th to my American friends!)

Britain's Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge take part in Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa July 1, 2011. The Royal couple arrived in Canada on Thursday for their first official visit overseas as a married couple.
