The Newfoundland cove that taught me what luxury really means

Bottle Cove has no postcard fame — and that’s exactly the point.

Turquoise water. Dark cliffs. Endless Atlantic views. And one beautiful trail leading out to the edge of the world.

This is Newfoundland — my home.

I’ve stood at Bottle Cove more times than I can count, and here’s the funny thing: the longer you stay, the more you notice. The colour of the water shifting with the light. The sound of the waves against the rock. The scent of salt air. The way the landscape makes you stop talking and simply look.

It’s a small cove near Lark Harbour, not far from Corner Brook — the kind of place that never makes the postcards, and somehow that’s exactly why it matters. There’s no rush here. No itinerary telling you where to be next. Just a trail, a cliff edge, and the whole Atlantic in front of you.

I think about Bottle Cove often when clients ask me what luxury really means. We tend to picture more — more stops, more sights, more ground covered. But some of the most extraordinary travel moments I’ve had came from doing exactly the opposite.

The greatest luxury isn’t seeing more. It’s feeling more.

Slow down. Stay a little longer. Let the place reveal itself.

That’s the whole philosophy behind Return on Life — and Bottle Cove is where I learned it first, long before I ever put a name to it.

Send this to the person you’d stand on that cliff edge with.

Have a corner of the world that slows you down the way Bottle Cove slows me down? Hit reply — I’d love to hear about it.
