
🎒🚚 Move-in day for my daughter Ceili at TMU was supposed to be exciting, emotional, and maybe even a little nostalgic.
Instead, it turned into a masterclass in handling the unexpected.
Here’s what we walked into:
- A squatter still in the apartment when we arrived (plunger, broken chairs, and all).
- Our freight elevator — booked a month in advance and confirmed twice — suddenly cancelled three days prior because of a holiday.
- Endless trips hauling boxes across a busy street, hoping an elevator would eventually take us to the right floor.Â

It wasn’t pretty. But with teamwork — thanks to my older daughter Ciara, her boyfriend Nick, and my husband Bill — plus bleach, Drano, and sheer determination, we scrubbed, furnished, and transformed the apartment into a home. By the end of the day, it looked less like
a student crash pad and more like a space for young professionals.
And here’s the connection to travel: this is exactly what I do every day as a luxury travel advisor. ✨
