8 Things to Decide
#2 Do you want to be on land everyday – or – are sea days a joy?
Do you want to be on land everyday when you cruise – or – are sea days a joy?
Here’s a page from my guide, which I’ve summarized below.
River cruise ships have you on land every day – and ocean cruises do not.
River cruise ships have you on land every day.
- There are short distances between ports.
- You’re in port for at least some portion of each day.
- There is constant scenery on both sides of river ship.
- Between ports, you will see the shoreline, and sail past castles & vineyards.
- You will hear birds, and see passenger cars onshore.
- You may wish to be in public areas when sailing past scenery.
- There are no life boats (you’re only ~ 100 yards from shore)
Ocean cruises go on open water, and you will have sea days.
- There can be big distances between ports.
- You can have days where you are not on land at all.
- You will usually have at least 1 sea day, sailing all day.
- Between ports, you will see water. Some love being cut off from world, & view of expansive water.
- You could relax in solitude in your room, and not miss any scenery.
- Life boats & muster drills are standard fare.
What would appeal to you most?
