My family just returned from sailing the Disney Fantasy. We had an awesome time – 7 night, Eastern Caribbean, and visiting the ports of St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Castaway Cay Bahamas.
But the biggest surprise was the onboard kids’ activities. Safety comes first with kids, of course – Ceili had her own personal “GPS” tracking system on her wrist – mandatory for any kid 11 or under. She had to tap her bracelet to gain access to the kids club (which entered her in the system), and parents had to not only have their “key to the world” guest card scanned, but we also had to give our password for picking her up.
The GPS system could also track children throughout the ship – so if, god forbi, the elevator doors closed too quickly, or you similarly got separated from your child… you could find them quickly.
My 6 year old was a little hesitant to try out the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab on deck 5, meant for 3-11 year olds. On her first visit, she was reluctant to miss out on anything with us, and we didn’t want to miss out on time with her. So, she ran around, played with all at a frentic pace, and then was keen to go back and try the Aqua Duck again – which was fine by me. I did encourage her to go back to kids club another day so I could get some photos – but by then, she was pushing me out to leave… she wanted to stay.
Of course, how could you not have fun? Even washing her hands in the automated washer was deemed “way cool.”
There’s a light up dance floor, a huge stash of Princess and pirate dress up costumes, and a play room based on “Toy Story.”
And – the characters showed up to dance with them. Mickey, Minnie, and Donald showed up after the adults were shooed away… Ceili had a blast!
(Of course, there are other kids’ clubs too. There’s a nursery for kids 3 months-3 years, a tweens’ club for 11-14 year olds, and a teens club… and there are plenty of adult only areas onboard the ship too!)
