🐾 Dog sledding, champagne, and caviar — all in one cruise.
This February, I sailed aboard Ponant’s Le Commandant Charcot on The St. Lawrence River in the Heart of the Boreal Winter. One of the highlights? Dog sledding through Quebec’s snowy boreal forests — huskies pulling us across frozen landscapes by day, luxury icebreaker comforts by night.
It’s the kind of symphony of contrasts that makes Ponant’s expedition cruises unforgettable.
When most people picture cruising, they imagine palm trees and warm breezes. But with Ponant, adventure can look a little different — think snow, huskies, and the thrill of gliding across a frozen landscape.
This past February, I sailed aboard Ponant’s Le Commandant Charcot, the world’s first luxury icebreaker, on The St. Lawrence River in the Heart of the Boreal Winter itinerary. And they are returning to this itinerary in 2027 if you want to go! View itinerary here »
One of the most unforgettable experiences? Dog sledding in Quebec.
❄️ Bundled up against the winter chill, I could hear nothing but the rhythmic panting of the huskies and the runners cutting across the snow.
🐕 The dogs were pure joy — eager, strong, and thrilled to run, their excitement carrying us across the white expanse.
🌲 We glided through boreal forests and open fields, with only the call of a raven breaking the stillness.
Dog sledding isn’t just an excursion — it’s a window into northern tradition and resilience, a way of life in Canada’s winter landscapes. To experience it while sailing on a vessel as extraordinary as Le Commandant Charcot was truly surreal:
🥂 Champagne and caviar onboard, huskies and snow adventures ashore — a symphony of contrasts that only Ponant can deliver.
For those craving something out of the ordinary, Ponant’s St. Lawrence in the Heart of the Boreal Winter offers the chance to discover Canada in a way few ever will.
