We had a terrific gathering with Intrepid Travel this week. We were focused on solo travelers - and had solo travelers meet other solo travelers, share travel tips, learn about group trips planned, and maybe suggest other trip ideas. But we also welcomed some couples (and others emailing me who couldn't attend.)
Intrepid is a great company for solo travelers, with over 50% of all their travelers being solo travelers - and 60% of those are ladies. So, they are well prepared to handle solo travelers. With a third of all their travelers being solo ladies, they know what to do. They offer low solo supplements, if you wish to have your own room, and also pair folks with same-sex partners. They also have trips to destinations where ladies may be more nervous to travel - and have female guides. They even have desiignated special trip departure dates being for solo travelers only.
But of course, 50% of their guests are still couples and/or folks traveling with friends. Their trips don't discriminate - they just make it easy for solo travelers to travel. They do the standard Europe, Australia, Peru type of trips - but they also do Japan and Iran, and some really different destinations. And I love their emphasis on foodie travel as one of their niches too - because it is through food that you really get to taste and experience the world.
At the presentation this week, we discussed some potential group travel ideas - some of the folks present this week were interested in Galapagos, Antarctica, and Morocco. Some are interested in Croatia and Iceland. And Italy is always popular, especially their foodie trip - like the Italy one we did last year. So, if you'd like to be part of one of those trips, please let me know. I'll be gathering details and getting back to folks this week.
