You might think you’ve landed on Mars, but this extraordinary landscape is right here in Newfoundland & Labrador.
The Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park are unlike almost anywhere else on Earth. Those barren, reddish-brown mountains are made of rock from the Earth’s mantle — material normally found deep beneath our feet, pushed to the surface hundreds of millions of years ago.
Walking here feels wonderfully otherworldly. The landscape is so unusual that scientists have studied the Tablelands to better understand our own planet — and environments that may resemble those on Mars.
It’s one of the things I love about travel: you don’t always have to go halfway around the world to find something that completely changes your perspective.
Sometimes, you just need Newfoundland. ❤️
