I often feature travel ‘product’ in my weekly newsletter, but it’s important to note that my focus as your travel advisor is on you; and your travel experience.
Let’s focus on a number – and that is: 10,000 hours.
Are you familiar with Malcolm Gladwell and his terrific book called Outliers?
In it, Gladwell reports that psychologists in the field of expertise research tried to figure out how long you have to work at something before you become really good. An extraordinarily consistent answer came back across an incredible number of fields – and that is that you have to have practiced, or apprenticed, for 10,000 hours before you get good.
10,000 Hours to Success & Mastery |
Here’s a quick video of Malcolm talking with CNN’s Anderson Cooper about the required 10,000 hours of practice and hard work before you get good at something.
Planning your travel is sufficiently complex that it takes a long time before you could reach mastery of that process. It certainly would take more than the 2 or 3 hours you might have to spare from your busy life and career (one that you’ve likely spent 10,000 hours getting good) to do a Google search. 🙂 It would even take more than 2-3 weeks of research, and talking to friends and family.
Your best search engine is to actually call me! I can harness my 10,000 +++ hours of learning and reaching mastery in the travel profession to help you!
I have worked for 10 years for 60+ hours a week in travel (yes, every week) with another 20 years before that in business and financial services. My hours of practice and apprentice in travel represent more than just an investment of time in front of a computer. Besides using different searching engines than you can access, my hours of investment has given me experiences to help you before I ever start searching for a holiday. I’ve booked travel for 100’s of clients, and trouble-shot various issues that can arise along the way. I’ve earned my TICO-registration. I’ve nurtured relationships with suppliers and my host agency, and I’ve earned specialty accreditation, I’m continually updating my training and learning about my suppliers with webinars and i
n-person Virtuoso conferences, and I am travelling around the world.
In actuality, I’ve spent over 25,000 hours in travel. So, why wouldn’t you harness my experience to help you maximize your return on life?
I saw this image this week. “Please do not confuse your google search with my medical degree.” I wonder if doctors welcome patients coming with reams of search engine results when they’re looking for a medical diagnosis. I’m not a medical doctor, but the 25,000 hours I’ve invested in my travel profession has given me a level of mastery that just doesn’t translate to your google search. You could probably research how to take your appendix out on the internet, …. but that doesn’t mean you should. The same is true of your travel planning.
We can certainly use your Google searches and research, and let them form the inputs in our discussions (much as I’d hope a wise doctor would do diagnosing any illness). You know what you like, and what’s important to you when you travel. But – we work together to ensure I know those values and interests. I certainly consider any research you’ve done, and take that info into account before I make any recommendations; but, after 25,000 hours, I have a bit more knowledge, stronger relationships and insights, and more experience in how to do things right, and what to do when things go wrong, than you would have when it comes to travel planning.
I am your travel advisor. You hire a financial advisor to maximize your return on your money. But your leisure time is a much more valuable asset. You don’t get it back if you make a mistake. You can’t recreate that holiday with your young kids, or your 25th wedding anniversary trip, or your solo adventure by simply making more money. The time is gone.
So, let’s work together. Let me leverage my 10,000+ hours to help you maximize your return on life, and plan the best vacation for you and your family. You can read more about my collaborative process here
